Press statement by the Migrant Help's Board of Trustees:

At Migrant Help, we are dedicated to a global society that protects survivors of exploitation and displacement, treats them with respect and enables them to thrive as individuals. We believe that everyone, irrespective of their background, should have a right to live in a society that upholds the values of compassion, support, inclusivity, and diversity. More especially, as they seek sanctuary and a new beginning within our communities.

It is important to note that our nation prospers when these values are upheld and promoted. Undoubtedly, we benefit from a diverse society, and rather than ostracising and using the circumstances of individuals seeking sanctuary for political gain, we should remember and uphold the country's long and proud history of compassion and support for those in need of protection.

As a charity that supports thousands of people seeking asylum, refugees and survivors of modern slavery, we were horrified to see communities, our clients and our colleagues targeted and abused over the past weeks.

Although deeply concerning and appalling, the unfair, hateful rhetoric, misinformation, and skewed narratives by a small minority do not reflect the values held by our communities. We know that the majority of the British public welcomes the richness that diversity brings to our daily lives. This is evident in their stand against the resurgent intolerance, the kindness and generosity showed by many in our communities. This gives us hope, a reaffirmation that our strength is anchored in the commitment to creating a safe and supportive environment for all.

It is important that we remain vigilant and proactive in promoting understanding, acceptance, respect, and equal opportunity for everyone regardless of race, religion, or background. As an organisation, we continue to collaborate with community members, partners, and other stakeholders to foster and build an inclusive society where everyone feels safe, and their human rights are protected.

Our actions are guided and driven by the belief that by standing together and upholding our shared values, we can build a stronger, more tolerant, and prosperous nation where everyone can benefit from the richness of our diversity. We encourage everyone to join us in this effort to ensure that our nation remains a place where all individuals, regardless of their background, are treated with fairness, dignity, respect, and the rich diversity of our nation is something to be celebrated, not threatened by a misguided minority.

Racism and islamophobia have no place in our society, and we are grateful to those who reject this hatred and stand with people seeking sanctuary.
